As a now seasoned team, our current projects are expanding. Check them out!
1. DARC Earth Nature Connection Summer Camp

Because of the success that we found with our Nature Connection Camp, we’re continuing the project.
The goal of this project is to promote nature connection with Horizons students with the overall goal of promoting pro-environmental behaviors.
This will be achieved through a series of activities taking place in the Harley Microfarm and the surrounding Harley campus, staffed by DARC Earth and supervised by knowledgeable faculty. Each activity will usually be achievable without bought materials and will inspire the students to develop independence in nature, creating a personal bond with nature for the students. It has been shown that this bond can improve people’s pro-environmental behaviors. For kids, pro-environmental behaviors over which they have control may include recycling, not littering, using a reusable water bottle, and using computers instead of paper for school work, when possible and inspire actions with greater impacts in the future.
Lessons will include various aspects of outdoor living, camping and gardening, all taking place on the Harley campus and Microfarm. Some examples include tent set-up, water filtering, fire making, natural observation, forest safety, and forest fun.
2. Youth Environmental Organizations Mapping
There are plenty of resources maps describing adult environmental organizations, but not so much for the youth. It is much harder to find out about youth activist organizations near you, which is why DARC Earth is trying to collaborate with the Greater Rochester Environmental Community Hub to work on this. Stay tuned…
